1. Participate in a Turkey Trot

Kick off the holiday by signing up for a local Turkey Trot and participate as a family. This is a great bonding experience and works for most activity levels because participants can walk, jog or run.

2. Walk between the grazing

For many of us, Thanksgiving can be a marathon of eating. Break up the constant grazing by going on walks throughout the day. A great time to take a break and walk is between dinner and dessert.

3. Move around during commercials

This is a great time to break up the sitting! You may often hear the coaches say “sitting is the new smoking”. Our bodies are not designed to sit for prolonged periods. Whether you’re watching movies, football or the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade – use commercials as an opportunity to get moving. This is a great time to get up and stretch or even do abs, push-ups or jumping jacks! You can even make it a competition.

4. Plan active family games

Board games are a great family activity but try mixing in some active games like flag football, catch or freeze tag to get outside and get moving.

5. Help clean up

This is not only a great way to help and thank the host but a good excuse to get up and move around after a long day of eating.
