Wellness Success Stories

Pam Verbarg

Weight Loss: 52 lbs

Other Benefits: HbA1c from 6.4% to 5.8%, fasting glucose decreased from 137mg/dL to 95mg/dl, eliminated blood pressure medication

In 2020, I lost over 40 pounds, but during COVID and while supporting my husband through a serious autoimmune disease and liver transplant journey, I slipped back into unhealthy habits and regained the weight. The stress was overwhelming, especially as his health declined leading up to his transplant on Christmas Eve 2022. Over the past few years, I stayed involved in wellness activities and slowly made progress, but last October I truly recommitted to my health. At my annual physical this April, my weight was the lowest it’s been since I started with my physician in 2014 after losing another 40 pounds. My A1C dropped from 6.4 to 5.8, my cholesterol improved, and I’ve loved fitting into smaller clothes again. But my biggest surprise came when I checked my blood pressure and realized the XL cuff I used to need was now too big!

Jeremie Johnson

Weight Loss: 35 lbs

Other Benefits: No longer prediabetic, came off blood pressure medication, lost 4 inches off his waist

Nine months ago, I looked in the mirror and didn’t recognize the man staring back at me. I was tired — tired of how I felt, tired of how I looked, and tired of missing out on the life I knew I still had in me. It wasn’t just about numbers on a scale or pants that fit too tight — it was about something deeper. I was ready for change. And this time, I meant it. Fast forward to today, I’m 30 pounds lighter, two pant sizes down, and an entirely different man — physically, mentally, and emotionally. It started with a decision, one honest moment where I told myself, “Enough is enough.” From there, I didn’t chase a fad or a shortcut. I built a lifestyle. I committed to walking 8,000 to 10,000 steps five days a week — not just to move my body, but to clear my mind. Those walks became my time to reset, to think, to breathe. Then came the gym — four days a week, strength training with real purpose. I wasn’t trying to look like a bodybuilder. I was trying to feel strong again. And now I do. Food was once my comfort, especially late at night. I made the hard choice to shift that mindset. I began prepping meals with intention, fueling my body instead of numbing it. I still enjoy what I eat — I just make smarter choices. I’ve cut way back on alcohol and said goodbye to those late-night binges. It’s not about restriction; it’s about respect — for myself, for my goals, and for the life I want to live. And let me tell you — I feel it. In my energy. In my happiness. In the way I can run around and play with my grandson without running out of breath or needing a break. I can keep up now — not just with him, but with life. This isn’t the end of my journey — it’s just the turning point. I didn’t just lose weight. I gained strength. I gained confidence. I gained time with the people I love and the ability to enjoy it all. And I’m not going back.

Shannon Osborne

Weight Loss: 159 lbs

Other Benefits: Lost 16 inches off waist, lowered blood pressure from 138/38 to 115/78

My weight loss journey began in 2023 with a moment I’ll never forget. My daughter wanted to participate in an activity that required two people under a certain weight. I was confident I would be fine, but when I stepped on the scale and realized I couldn’t participate, it broke both my daughter’s heart and mine. In that moment, I knew I needed to make a change. Years earlier, a car accident in 2009 had limited my physical activity, which contributed to weight gain over time. I often struggled with swelling in my ankles and legs and worried about how long I could stand without being in pain the next day. I started working with a nutritionist and attending support groups, and eventually my husband joined me on the journey. Together, we became each other’s biggest supporters and have lost a combined 220 pounds. Today, everyday activities like taking the stairs are much easier. The swelling in my legs has almost completely gone away, and my energy and confidence have improved tremendously. Along the way, I have participated in several AHW wellness programs, including weekly wellness workshops and the 16-week Diabetes/Cardiovascular Prevention Program. The information shared in these programs has been incredibly helpful, but what has meant the most is the sense of community. Hearing others talk about their struggles, challenges, and especially their successes has kept me motivated and encouraged me to stay committed to my health goals and maintaining a healthier lifestyle.

Kelsey Bell

Weight Loss: 45 lbs

Other Benefits: Gained muscle, energy is steady and is pain free

My health journey began eight years ago, after finishing breastfeeding my second child, but it wasn’t until the past couple years that I achieved the growth I am most proud of. I had gained about 55 pounds from back-to-back pregnancies and found myself constantly tired. I was also dealing with pain in my knees, hips, wrists, and elbows from constantly chasing and lifting the kids without the strength to support that movement. I joined an MMA gym and lost the weight quickly—faster than I ever expected—and even dropped below my pre-baby weight. But that’s when I learned an important truth: weight loss doesn’t always mean better health. Then at my smallest size, I was struggling with acne, low energy, sleep issues, hormonal imbalance, and hair loss. I was thin, but I wasn’t healthy—or strong. So I shifted my focus from losing weight to gaining strength. I started eating more protein, healthy fats, and complex carbs. I reduced the intensity and frequency of my workouts and began lifting weights to build strength instead of simply burning calories. I gained back about 20 pounds of muscle and healthy fat. My total weight loss ended up at around 45 pounds, but my body composition and energy completely transformed for the better. The final step in my wellness journey has been learning to rest. I prioritize sleep and recovery as much as my workouts. Now, my body feels balanced and resilient. My hair and skin are healthy, my energy is steady, and I am pain free. I’m proud of my strength—I can do seven pull-ups, sprint without injury, deadlift over twice my body weight, and run three miles comfortably. Most importantly, I can still pick up and run around with my kids—who are much bigger now! This journey has taught me that true wellness isn’t about extremes—it’s about balance and sustainability.

Samantha Estes

Weight Loss: 200 lbs

Other Benefits: Off medications, confident

I’ve battled my weight my entire life—losing it in unhealthy ways in high school, only to gain it back through college, single motherhood, postpartum depression, and using food as comfort for every emotion. At my heaviest, I weighed 430 pounds. I was exhausted, unhappy, and scared I wouldn’t be there for my son. In 2017, after a humiliating moment getting stuck on a water slide, I made a decision that changed my life. I joined a CrossFit gym, learned how to properly fuel my body, focused on macros, eliminated junk food, and committed fully to my health—physically and mentally. I started therapy, identified my triggers, and built sustainable habits. From 2017–2020, I lost over 230 pounds. I reached my lowest weight since age 15. I could walk without losing my breath. I could run. I felt strong. Confident. Proud. COVID and life stressors led to setbacks, including a 30-pound regain and a diagnosis of high blood pressure. But I refused to let relapse define me. I reset. I recommitted. Today, I am still down over 200 pounds. I am off birth control. I am off blood pressure medication. I focus daily on protein, hydration, steps, sleep, and strength. Being part of the AHW family has been incredibly impactful—I’ve loved the weekly webinars and guest speakers. I’ve gained valuable knowledge about hormones, brain health (especially meaningful after my uncle’s Alzheimer’s and dementia diagnosis), gut health, mood, energy, supplements, and so much more. The difference between 2017 me and 2025 me? I know I can succeed. I am self-aware. I am resilient. I am thriving. For the first time since I was a little girl, I feel confident in a dress. And to me—that confidence, that health, that freedom—is the greatest outcome of all.

Traci Thompson

Weight Loss: 105 lbs

Other Benefits: Off all three diabetic medications, lowered cholesterol medication, more energy

After seeing photos from my brother’s wedding in July 2022, I knew it was time to take control of my health. I was over 250 lbs, my A1C was 8.9, and my cholesterol was in the 300s. With my doctor’s help, we adjusted my diabetes medications and I began moving more. Weight loss was gradual, but as I started feeling better, I stayed consistent. After losing about 50 lbs, I was able to come off some medications, and within the first year and a half I had lost 70 lbs total. During this time, I made major lifestyle changes—improving my food choices, cutting back on eating out, and giving up fast food for Lent each year. I went from eating out four times a week to about once a month. I eventually hit a plateau around 180 lbs, but I focused on how much better I felt, how my clothes fit, and how much more active I had become. I completed the Mackinac Bridge Walk on Labor Day 2025 and have now done three 2K walks. When AHW partnered with P.J. Wallbank Spring INC, I was excited to gain more tools and lifestyle strategies. Not everything works for everyone, but the challenges and support helped me push past my plateau. Through NRBC+ 2025, adding more fruits and veggies, and walking consistently, I reached my goal of losing 105 lbs. My dog Turbo and I now walk daily—three 15-minute walks after work, one 15-minute walk at lunch, plus weekend walks. After hitting my goal, I am working to maintain and maybe setting another small goal for weight loss. I have so much more energy and productivity now. At my heaviest I would just want to go home and sleep and then get up, eat and go back to sleep. If I was to give any advise, weight loss and healthy living is really a mind over matter state. That was the start of my journey. Celebrate each small goal and try not to focus on the end goal. Find a good support team, including your health care provider. Believe in yourself and don’t let a relapse become a collapse. We didn’t gain the weight in a day and it will not come off in a day. You have to figure out what works best. It is not a diet it is a lifestyle that you have incorporate into your world.

Cricket Lemm

Weight Loss: 56 lbs

Other Benefits: HbA1c dropped from 5.7% to 5.3%; decreased coronary risk score from 5.02 to 2.12

As I got older, I became increasingly concerned about my health. Despite annual exams, exercising, and eating “right,” my cholesterol continued to rise and my weight wouldn’t budge. My lipid panel stayed in the red for years, and it was incredibly frustrating. Everything changed when I enrolled in the 16-week PreventT2 program through American Health and Wellness. I learned how food combinations, timing, and movement truly impact the body—and even brain health—in ways I had never considered. That “aha” moment helped me realize that while I was trying, I still had more to learn. The results speak for themselves. In November 2024, I weighed 195 lbs, my cholesterol was 261, and my A1C was 5.7. By September 2025, I had lost 56 lbs, now weigh 139, my cholesterol dropped to 161, my A1C to 5.3, and my coronary risk score improved from 5.02 to 2.12. I cannot express how very important these American Health and Wellness sessions have become to me. I cannot THANK YOU enough. As you can see, because numbers don’t lie, you’ve made a huge difference in not only my physical health but my brain and honestly my mental health as well. Please continue to provide these very educational and literally life-changing sessions!

Julie Carrico

Weight Loss: 28 lbs

Other Benefits: HbA1c dropped from 6.1% to 4.6%; fasting glucose dropped from 129 to 98

I began my health and wellness journey by joining the PreventT2 program through American Health & Wellness, and it has truly been life-changing. The education and support I received—especially through the Nutrition Re-Bootcamp—reshaped how I approach my health. The Whole30 program stood out for its focus on nourishment rather than restriction, helping me build realistic, sustainable habits. As a result, I feel more energetic, focused, and productive. I’m proud to share that my pre-diabetes is behind me, I’ve discontinued metformin with my doctor’s support, and I’ve lost 26 pounds—my clothes fit better than ever. The accountability and encouragement from AHW made all the difference, and I’m excited to continue my wellness journey while inspiring others to do the same.

Omar Castro

Weight Loss: 156 lbs

Other Benefits: HbA1c from 6.6% to 5.4%, blood pressure down from 202/86 to 108/64, 16 inches off his waist

Our 2025 1st Place $3,000 Healthyme Winner! Sharing this story hasn’t been easy, because it required me to look honestly at my relationship with food, my health, and my mental well-being. For years, I unknowingly used food as a coping mechanism for stress, anxiety, and anything I didn’t want to face. That pattern became so normal that I justified it at every turn, and by age 43, it had led me to 397 pounds, constant physical pain, and daily medication just to get through the day. I adjusted to every limitation and convinced myself it was fine – until a health scare landed me in the ER with dangerously high blood pressure and forced me to confront reality. Soon after, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes and hypertension and was given a sobering warning: if nothing changed, I might not be around long enough to see my kids grow up. That moment became my turning point. Today, at 45, I’m down 156 pounds and still working toward my goals, stronger and healthier than I’ve been in years. I’ve learned that taking care of myself isn’t selfish – it’s necessary. Being able to participate in this wellness program through work and knowing I’m not alone in this fight is HUGE. So many of these courses feel like someone is inside my brain, pulling out topics that hit home in a real way, and the self-reflection I walk away with is uncanny, but essential for continued growth.

Kristen Haley

Weight Loss: 64 lbs

Other Benefits: No longer taking metformin or insulin, HbA1c from 6.7% to 5.5%

Our 2025 2nd Place $2,000 Healthyme Winner! I’ve been on my health journey since January 2025, with the goal of improving my energy so I can keep up with my three young children. I want to be here for them long-term and model what it looks like to respect and care for my body. Over the past 7–8 months, I’ve completed the Nutrition and Reboot Camps, Diabetes Prevention courses, and hormonal health wellness workshops. I also sought support from a dietitian and a hormone replacement specialist, making lifestyle changes such as removing inflammatory foods, increasing nourishing foods, becoming more active, and balancing my thyroid and hormones. As a result, I’ve lost 64 pounds and 8 pants sizes – and more importantly, I now have the energy to wrestle, run, and fully enjoy outdoor activities with my kids. I knew there was a better way to live. Taking the first step was hard, but I have no regrets – and you won’t either. Live the life you’re meant to have!

Jacqui DeNucci

Weight Loss: 40 lbs in 6 months!

Other Benefits: Reversed pre-diabetes and fatty liver disease

Our 2025 3rd Place $1,000 Healthyme Winner! I began my health and wellness journey in September 2024. After completing the Prevent T2 Program, my doctor ran labs and discovered I was insulin resistant, pre-diabetic, and had fatty liver disease. Motivated to make a change, I immediately made changes in my diet and began walking daily. I even joined a hiking group and now hike 5–7 miles every Saturday. Since then, I’ve reversed my insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, and seen significant improvement in my liver enzymes. I’ve also lost 40 pounds in just six months. I feel mentally and physically incredible and am so grateful for the guidance, tools, and support provided by the AHW Program.

Joe Imbrock

Weight Loss: 85 Pounds

Other Benefits: Now running marathons

I’ve lost 85 lbs. In 2019, I was 289 pounds. This is when I realized my life needed a change because there was no way to continue down this path. My initial health journey began with the purchase of a road bike and a goal of riding 3-4 times a week. At first, it was hard. Every mile felt like an eternity and every night’s recovery afterwards was painful. During the peak of this initial weight loss success, I ended up finding a new job. This greatly altered my life scheduling due to the shift of working from home to 40 hours in office. My midday lunch rides were no longer an option, and I found myself gaining back the weight I had just lost. A coworker and friend suggested I try running. Within a year, I had gone from not being able to run a mile straight to running 13.1 in under two hours. My next goal? The full Indy Marathon I signed up for is on 11/8/2025!

Christin Jorczak

Weight Loss: 75 Pounds

Other Benefits: Reduced diabetes and blood pressure meds!

I’ve lost 75 lbs and continue to lose more! I know that I can do this and increase my exercise with AHW’s help. My doctor was able to decrease my diabetes and blood pressure medications in half! I also reduced my A1c to 5.7! I have really noticed that I’ve been getting better sleep as well. This may sound silly, but I can tie my shoes and cross my legs now! I get so much more joy out of life now!

Tracey Sampson

Weight Loss: 43 Pounds

Other Benefits: Reduced medication use

I’m down 43 pounds. My blood pressure has dropped to a healthy range (I was on 50 mg blood Pressure pills). I wake up energized and ready to take on the day. Even aspects of my health I hadn’t spoken about, have been restored. I feel renewed, more confident, and full of vitality again. I’ve been reminded that when we fuel our bodies the way they were designed to be fueled, everything changes — physically, mentally, and even spiritually. I’m not just seeing transformation in my own life — I’m planting seeds of hope and health in others. Whole30 hasn’t just reset my diet — it’s revived my life.

Melissa Merriam

Weight Loss: 80 Pounds

Other Benefits: Blood sugar and cholesterol back in normal range

I’ve lost 80 pounds, brought my glucose and cholesterol back into normal ranges, and gained a level of energy I hadn’t felt in years. The AHW Nutrition Re-Boot Camp program has been a huge part of my success. But beyond the numbers, I’ve experienced better sleep, higher energy, more joy, and a renewed sense of possibility for my future. If I could give one piece of advice to someone feeling discouraged, it’s this: don’t wait for the “perfect” time to start. Small, consistent steps add up!

Nikki Ross

Weight Loss: 51 Pounds

Other Benefits: Less pain and better mobility

Losing over 50 pounds has not only lowered my risk factors but has also given me energy and a sense of freedom I didn’t realize I had lost. The AHW Wellness Program and its coaches have been a huge part of my motivation. The workshops and challenges helped me stay accountable and reminded me that I wasn’t walking this path alone. Love yourself enough to try. Take it one step at a time and remember that every small victory matters.

Heather Howk-Demland

Weight Loss: 40 Pounds

Other Benefits: Lowered blood sugar from 220 to 155

One night I went out to dinner with my family and mom. I ate and drank and was having a great time until 30-40 mins after eating and I started to feel weight, tired and sick and could not focus. My mom checked my blood sugar, and it was over 220 – that was the day things changed. I am diabetic and that was the day I discovered less is more and healthy choices should fun and colorful. Now, my blood sugar has not been over 155 and I received a shock – all my hard work one day at a time and my weight is now 185.62lbs. I know there will be ups and downs but that is ok, I am here for the long haul.

Jamie Wages

Weight Loss: 30 Pounds

Other Benefits: No longer on blood pressure medication

Jamie has lost 30 pounds, reduced her blood pressure, and is now completely off blood pressure medications – a life-changing transformation she’s proud to share. “I haven’t been at this weight for years, and the best part is I’ve been able to keep it off while still losing,” Jamie says. “It all started when I got my mindset right and became more aware of what I was putting into my body. I only wish I had started sooner, but better late than never!”
For Jamie, the journey has been about more than just numbers on the scale. It’s about building confidence, gaining energy, and joining a supportive community that motivates her to keep going. “I’ll join as many groups as I can – I love the support and the fact that there’s no judgment. I’m in this for the long haul. If I can do it, anybody can.” Jamie’s story is proof that lasting change is possible with the right mindset, support, and commitment.

Meghan Reeves

Weight Loss: 150 Pounds

Other Benefits: Found happiness again and a new passion for hiking

The picture on the right was my brother’s wedding, on a day that should have had me celebrating and being happy for my brother, I was instead remembering the embarrassment and disappointment I felt at the way I looked and felt on my brothers and my sister in laws day. I felt embarrassed that I would have to have to face old family and friends and see me at my absolute worst. I had failed myself. I no longer fought for myself. I had officially let myself go. Once the pictures came back from the photographer, I wanted to do what I usually did best and delete all the evidence of the photos, untag the tags on Facebook and act like I did not even attend my brother’s wedding and never look at them again, hiding myself in shame. I instead choose one picture to save – this will be my motivation. I finally figured it out. I had to choose myself. The girl on the right photo did not show up for herself. It’s been 6 years since those photos. I have finally figured out weight loss and a healthy lifestyle change isn’t just physical it is also mental and emotional. It is a fight every single day to make the right choices, but I will continue to show up for myself every day because I am worthy of love.

Chris Panyard

Benefits: Feel like a new man

Quote: I couldn’t believe I lost 27.4 pounds in 30 days!”

I started my health journey at the beginning of 2025. My wife and I welcomed 3 kids in 37 months (April 2021, November 2022, May 2024) and I realized I had been turning to food to cope with the stress of raising a 3-year-old, 2-year-old, and 8-month-old. I was addicted to sugar and greasy fast food. When I stepped on the scale in January, I was 252.4 lbs. I was embarrassed and ashamed about my weight and how crummy I felt everyday.  I knew something needed to change so I decided to sign up for NRBC when I received an email about it. They were talking about Whole30 so I decided to go all in because what I was doing was not working. When Coach Penny said, “what you don’t CHANGE, you CHOOSE!”, it really resonated with me. My “why?” was my wife and 3 young kids. I want to set a good example for them and I want to have energy to be the husband and father that God calls me to be. There were times that I felt so discouraged and like I may have damaged my body to the point of no return. The NRBC team helped me realize that it wasn’t too late, and that I was not “too far gone.”

Greg Carter:

Weight Lost: 100 lbs.

Other Benefits: Improved sleep & mobility

Quote: “I had to do something now, not later.”

I had type 2 diabetes and had to cut carbs and sugars now, not later. I started eating better and exercised more. Samantha, one of the coaches, was a big help along with the seminars helped improve my understanding of food. I feel so much better now that I exercise, eat better quality food and take a multivitamin.

Gina Ravens:

Weight Lost: 65 lbs.

Other Benefits: Lost 12 inches from waist & improved blood work

Quote: “I’m still working every day & plan to continue.”

I was very close to become pre-diabetic, as well as had high cholesterol. If I didn’t change my diet and exercise immediately, I would have to go on medication. I entered the Healthy Me Whole 30 and Walk Challenge. Through the challenges and the health coaches’ webinars, I learned how to eat better and the importance of walking every day. My husband and family have been huge supporters, along with my coworkers. They helped me to keep on track with walking every day, even when it was freezing outside. I would like to thank the coaches for all of the great information they have provided us. I still have a long way to go, but I’m feeling awesome.

Gina Kevin:

Weight Lost: 61 lbs.

Other Benefits: No longer pre-diabetic & thyroid meds reduction

Quote: “You are never, ever, ever too old to change.”

I am naturally a giver and take care of everyone but myself. I realized I was sick and tired of being sick and tired, and no one was going to take care of me, the way I needed to take care of me. I decided that I loved life more than I loved food, but needed to start taking steps. As of today, I am now down 61 lbs with 29 more to go. I have moved from a 2XL to a L. My waist is now down nearly 12″ off of my waist. I’ve gone from pre diabetic A1C levels to completely normal and my thyroid medicine has also been reduced to the 2nd lowest dose available. Since changing my eating, I have eliminated most inflammatory foods and have seen almost all inflammation be eliminated. I no longer am out of breath climbing the 3 flights of stairs to my residence. I don’t have pain in my joints any longer. It is much more fun to buy clothes and let my real personality shine. I am forever grateful to the program!

Dave Briegleb:

Weight Lost: 48 lbs.

Other Benefits: Lost 16″ around waist, reduced blood pressure & lowered cholesterol

Quote: “About discipline of diet, knowing what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat.”

I was tired of being out of shape and the image I saw in the mirror. I also wanted to make sure I can keep up with my 12 year old grandson and all of his activities. So, I decided to change and wanted to participate in the Healthyme contest. Regarding diet, I am proof you cannot out-exercise a bad diet. Doing Prep was the biggest thing. How to shop and prep. Because if I didn’t do that I would stumble . If I spend 2 hours on Sunday morning grocery and prep, it’s done. If they are shy as I am maybe start out with a seminar since it is not so interactive, and then gain rapport through coaching sessions. Just get started, once I start something I can do it. Having confidence upfront. With the help of AHW, I have a better quality of life, more energy and can wear clothes that I haven’t been able to fit into for years. Also, my overall mental state has improved, I have less joint swelling and my wedding ring fits better.

Vicki Thompson:

Weight Lost: 30 lbs.

Other Benefits: Better sleep & fewer mood swings

Quote: “I’m in a healthier mental place and I’m more physically fit than I was in 2022.

My husband Lew went on the journey with me and we’re both so much healthier now. In addition to the wellness sessions that focused on holistic approaches to health, I was able to get assistance from Coach Sam with stress when my mother passed away from Alzheimer’s in December 2022. That boosted my thinking to address better health. Take the first step, get involved with AHW, start slow by attending group coaching circles to get a feel for the holistic approach to wellness and an understanding of how AHW works.

Carole Palazzo:

Quote: “Aches and pain decreases are amazing!”

I want to be a healthy part of our growing family as long as possible. To attend events, play with the Grands…walk long distances without pain, travel. So many times I witness others struggle because of weight, pain disease and I wanted to see if I could make changes to avoid some of the things that can come with aging. While I haven’t had my annual physical yet…weight is down about 20 lbs. My blood pressure is much lower. And some pain I’ve had is almost non existent. I take the stairs at work at least once a day…and am not nearly as out of breath as in the past. ’m so grateful to each and every person in my Village. See above! The social media pages, group coaching sessions, the emails the Coaches would answer. It was an important part of the path.

Dawn Lego:

Weight Lost: 20 lbs.

Other Benefits: Transformation of mindset & biometrics

Quote: “Don’t overthink it; just start somewhere.”

I always thought I was invincible. I ran around like I was still in my 20s, never giving much thought to my health and wellness. It just wasn’t a word that I associated with myself. But then, life threw us a curveball during COVID. My husband was out of work for 21 long months, and we foolishly decided to go without health insurance to save a bit of money. Times were tough, and every penny counted. After bad blood tests and a positive result from a mammography, I knew something had to change. My perspective on life, health, and wellness had shifted dramatically. It was time to prioritize myself for the sake of those I loved most. I was on the path to transformation, not just for my own sake, but for the future I wanted to be a part of. Ever since I made this shift, my life has taken a turn for the better, and it’s reflected in every aspect, including my job performance.

James Pike:

Weight Lost: 40 lbs.

Other Benefits: Lost 6″ in my waist & improved self-confidence

Quote: “There will be struggles along the way, but you have the ability and power to improve your life and Make It Happen!”

I feel good about myself and am so very proud of my accomplishments at this point. I have the fuel to keep going and achieve my goals. My spouse Michael, who has done the program and journey with me, losing just about the same as I have to this point. The AHW team have been a great support and the sessions have been very encouraging. All of them and adding more to the mix, increasing exercise at this point and hopefully refocusing on nicotine cessation. Make a plan, set SMART Goals, and have a support system to be there to share in the good times and challenging ones. There will be struggles along the way, but you have the ability and power to improve your life and Make It Happen!! I am so Thankful for this opportunity to share my story. The potential of winning money was a nice perk, but not the true prize. My health and wellness journey has had its fair share of highs and lows but throughout, I continued to persevere.

Lauren King:

Weight Lost: 50 lbs.

Other Benefits: Lost 29 inches overall & normal glucose levels

Quote: “The only person who really needs to care about your health is yourself.”

I didn’t feel like myself. Things I normally loved like hiking and kayaking or anything active started to become affected My blood test results. I went from a prediabetic glucose level to completely normal. Also have lost over 50lbs and over 29 inches I found I was not consuming enough calories for how often and hard I exercised. So for the first time ever instead of “dieting” I increased my calorie and protein intake. I also went and got my blood work done and worked with my dr to figure out my hormones. And how specific things I ate could effect those levels. I did an elimination diet of these things My happiness has been the most measurable factor. I feel 10,000 times better about life and myself I would say I was my own biggest supporter.

Maree Gailey:

Weight Lost: 46 lbs.

Other Benefits: Happier, increased mobility & more energy

Quote: “Don’t do it alone, find a support system.

I don’t have the pains in my back that I used to have when standing and watching my nephews play sports. My family and my coworkers have been my biggest supporters. Without them I don’t think I would have succeeded. They were a huge help, especially the coaching circles and motivation and suggestions during the group sessions. The extra motivation and support from all of the coaches and other members, just knowing you have that backup and check in was a huge motivator. I plan on keeping up with my nightly walks, I am even encouraging family members and friends to join me when I can get them too. I am also keeping up with the no pasta rule. Baby steps, and one day at a time, and try to find something to replace things you are giving up with don’t just cut things out cold turkey.

Melanie McNary:

Weight Lost: 56 lbs.

Other Benefits: Down 3 dress sizes & no longer on blood pressure medication

I definitely have more energy and notice it’s easier to move. My recurring pain in my right thigh I had after back surgery in 2020 went away after my diet changed. I physically feel so much better on a balanced diet. Regular water intake keeps my skin clear and healthy. Dr. Mia Cowan, my wellness doctor has been my biggest cheerleader and encourager. The wellness program has been a big influence and the activities are informative. As VP of HR I decided I needed to be a role model for the program. I plan to continue keeping my carbs low, tracking my foods and exercising. Intermittent fasting has been a valuable tool for maintaining my weight. I now do chair aerobics twice a week. The advice I would give to others is take it one day at a time and track your meals, exercise. Find the plan that works for you. Get an accountability partner.

Karen had to engage in some serious self-reflection at first; it was as though part of her identity was stripped away when the job and the people she had surrounded herself with for the past two decades disappeared. Challenges were posed that she had never anticipated. Yet, she made up her mind to be as optimistic as possible, to start moving her body more by walking and dancing and to be mindful of her nutrition. She regularly updated her food journal and discovered she had perhaps been turning to food for comfort.
