Thank you for the privilege of sharing your story to inspire others. It has been a privilege to walk this journey and listen to your stories, and then celebrate each milestone. So, let’s celebrate.
When did you start making changes to your diet, exercise and lifestyle to get healthier?
Why did you decide to make changes that would positively impact your health and wellbeing?
I found out that I was diabetic
What has been your biggest achievement?
I have lost 30 pounds and I am kicking diabetes to the curb.
How have you accomplished your health goals?
I have limited my carbs and sugar, cut down on eating fast food to once a month as a special treat and I walk on my lunch hours and with my dogs after work.
Other than your bloodwork biomarkers improving, in what ways has your life been impacted?
I have more energy and I feel better about myself in general. I never thought I could do it. When I go buy my 30-pound bag of dog food I stop and think WOW – that is how much weight I have lost! You go girl!!!
How has the wellness program, the coach, or the seminars added to your success?
Penny has been AMAZING!! She is encouraging and we had a meeting that first week I found out I was diabetic and she gave me hope. Her sessions have given me direction and motivation.
Who or what has been your biggest supporter/motivation?
I wanted to prove to myself that diabetes wasn’t going to win. I don’t like needles and that was not going to become a daily ritual for me. My husband and my sisters have been great and my coworkers have really helped me stay motivate
What new lifestyle behaviors will you definitely want to continue to practice?
I will continue to walk all the time. I have 3 more 5K’s to do this year (4 total). I’m not really craving carbs anymore so that will stay out of my diet like it has been. I will do whatever it takes to keep diabetes at bay!
What advice would you give to someone who wants to get healthier but feels discouraged?
Don’t give up! If you fall down don’t worry, there is always tomorrow. Life is hard and things don’t always work out but you have to keep trying. Just add 10 more steps then 20 more steps and so on and so on and then the next thing you know you have walked a mile and lost a few pounds. Losing is not as easy as gaining. But it is worth it. Love yourself and do it for yourself. That is how I found my success. I have tried in the past to do it for another person whether it was my husband/boyfriend or my child and it never worked. But when my doctor said it was me or diabetes that is when it kicked in my brain that I had to do it!!
From all of us at AHW, congratulations and keep up the hard work!
