American Health & Wellness Group Senior Health Coach, Shelly Cherry sits down and interviews the amazing Larry Showalter of our client, Custom Concrete. Larry has lost almost 50 pounds and is still going!
What made you want to begin on this new health and wellness journey?
I knew it was time. I was feeling miserable all day every day and knew there needed to be a change. I wanted to lose the weight. I kept listening to the health coaches during the seminars and knew there were some easy changes I could make, so I started there. I have 3 grandkids and I really want to be healthy for them. I was active as a kid and really missed being healthy and more active than I was.
What are some easy changes you have made?
My first thing was cutting out the white breads and pastas. I also wanted to add more fruit in my day, so I decided to just start adding in more fruit for one week and it became pretty easy, so I continued. I quit eating fast food. I was eating McDonalds a lot. I cut that out and didn’t really see as much weight loss there. It was when I cut out the white breads and pastas and added more fruits and vegetables that I started to see the changes.
Do you attend the health and wellness seminar monthly? If so, do they help?
I attend them every month. I think they helped me the most. Every time I would go, I would hear Shelly say “just cut out one thing and start there.” That is when I decided to cut out the white breads and pastas. I then remember Shelly saying “now try and add some more color, like vegetables and fruit to your day!” That is when I decided that was an easy place to start.
Do you work with your health coach often?
Shelly and I meet after every seminar to touch base. We also exchange emails. She really helps keep me on top of it and hold me accountable. I feel very comfortable talking to Shelly, she is really easy to talk to. She helped enforce the basic changes I was making and made it achievable.
What is one thing you do all the time that really helps you continue to achieve your goals?
Every Sunday I pack my breakfast, lunch and snacks for the entire week. It takes me an hour and a half but then it is done and I don’t have to worry about it. For breakfast every day I heat up my eggs with sausage scramble. Then when I am driving site to site all throughout my day, I snack on my fruits and vegetables. I get at least 3 colors, carrots, celery, peppers and oranges. It is really easy to just snack on that when I am in the car.
What other goals do you want to accomplish?
I am going on a cruise in a few months. I have more weight I want to lose and I will get there. I have lost almost 50 pounds and I want to lose a lot more! But, I will get there, definitely.

Larry has been incredible to work with! When I first reached out to Larry in regards to his blood tests, I always wondered if I would get kickback or an immediate buy in. Well, Larry was ready to go! We started meeting and setting some goals. In addition to Larry’s major successes above, he has not only lost almost 50 lbs but his blood test results have improved immensely! His entire lipid panel (total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides), blood sugar and blood pressure have all improved. All levels are now in the “normal” range. He is doing great, feeling so much better and is ready to continue on this journey. Nothing happens over night and it takes lots of time and dedication. Larry has started a whole new journey of health and wellness and is ready to keep crushing his goals!
